Clearleft Ltd: Senior Interface Designer

February 3, 2012

Full-time

(Brighton, UK)

Is your growth as a designer currently being limited by the type of client, size of budget, or the short time frames you’re being asked to work under? Do your clients or colleagues not really get the web? Then we may have the job for you.

We’re looking for a world-class interface designer to join Clearleft’s team of internationally-renowned experts. Our ideal candidate would have an obvious love of design and a real passion for visual problem solving. You will be someone who can draw inspiration from a wide range of sources (not just the web) to create a variety of powerful design concepts. With the direction set you’ll be able to develop these concepts into stunning interfaces that are easy and engaging to use.

You’ll need to be as happy working with pen and paper as on the Mac (extra credit for carrying a sketchbook), love typography, grid-based design and have an incredible attention to detail. You should also be able to interpret complex briefs and effectively communicate your design decisions to clients, colleagues and peers alike—be that in a meeting or in the pub over a frosty beverage!

Like all good designers, you’ll need an innate understanding of the medium. And whilst we’re not looking for another web standards guru (we have a few of those already) you will need to have a thorough understanding of XHTML/CSS and be comfortable building complicated CSS layouts. Most importantly, you’ll love what you do and constantly want to do it better.

In return for your experience and enthusiasm we’ll provide you with a supportive and highly creative environment, and the chance to work with some of the best-known and most talented designers, developers and UX people in the industry. You’ll work on high profile projects for the likes of Channel 4, Mozilla and NBC Universal to name just a few.

As a small company we believe that your happiness matters, so we’ve put together a great package. We’ll give you flexible working hours and the ability to work from home when you want. To help keep you flexible, we’ll give you a company MacBook and a training budget of £1,000 to make sure you’re up-to-date. So if you’ve always wanted to go to SXSW but could never afford it, now you can. We run team training days (like sketching and letterpress printing) and company days out (like photography classes and trips to the Design Museum). All this along with our monthly movie nights, beach BBQs and occasional (optional) karaoke sessions, makes working at Clearleft fun.

Apply: If you think you have what it takes to join our team, drop us your CV, a link to your portfolio and a covering letter (to info@clearleft.com) explaining why you’d be perfect for this job. We look forward to hearing from you.
