Kids Help Phone: Web Designer (1 Year Contract)

As a Web Designer you will be a key member of the Kids Help Phone kids’ website team. Projects will include designing new site sections, enhancing and maintaining existing pages, and developing small interactive features.

This is a full-time, on-site position.

Your duties will include:

Web design

a) Design, produce and implement a wide range of online graphics, pages and features including, but not limited to: web page designs, online promotional banners, animations, online games and quizzes, and small interactive features.
b) Be very creative – given text-based information, come up with creative concepts to present it in a highly visual and interactive way for kids and teens.
c) Design and build UI for web-based applications from start to finish by producing mock-ups, prototypes and the finished product.
d) Create designs and features that appeal to kids and teens while remaining aligned with the Kids Help Phone brand and the website’s clinical objectives.
e) Understand youth culture and the age-specific preferences of Kids Help Phone’s three target audiences (ages 5-7, 8-11, 12+) – understand what’s cool and what’s not, and be up-to-date with youth and digital trends.
f) Proactively research the latest widgets, technologies and applications that could make the website more interactive and engaging
g) Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Web production

a) Perform day-to-day maintenance of Kids Help Phone’s websites, including scheduled and ad-hoc website updates, using hands-on coding and content management systems.
b) Configure web technologies as required for use on the websites (internal search engine, polling software, online surveys, widgets, etc.)
c) Ensure a consistent look and feel across the websites by ensuring uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images, layout, and site architecture, and creating appropriate page templates.
d) Proactively find, diagnose, and fix website technical, content, and usability problems, including broken links, typographical errors, and formatting/style inconsistencies.
e) Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

You will be a strong team player and will possess the following qualifications:

Required

a) 3-5 years of interactive design experience in a work environment
b) Educational diploma in Design, Multimedia, or a related field
c) Advanced skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, and similar software
d) Proficiency in Flash animation, actionscript and other coding languages (ability to create animations, update actionscript elements, find and “tweak” JQuery/Javascript code to meet a project’s needs)
e) Ability take Photoshop designs and create standards compliant HTML/CSS code
f) Strong visual design skills and a strong understanding of graphic design (type, color, layout, composition, motion graphics)
g) Understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and solutions
h) Attention to detail
i) Good communication skills and the ability to work with many different groups of people
j) Ability to meet deadlines and work concurrently on multiple projects
k) A positive, friendly manner and customer service approach
